FAST 4 MATCH FORMAT:

LETS:

Although ‘official’ FAST4 rules require players to play lets, Lopez Open allows server to repeat service attempt.

GAMES: NO-AD SCORING:

Deciding point (aka sudden death deuce) in games on reaching deuce (40–40). The receiver chooses which side the point is played, (male to male, female to female in mixed doubles).

SETS: FIRST TO 4 GAMES

A set is won when a player wins 4 games. If a set gets to 3-3, a traditional set tie break is to be used to determine winner of the set.

TIE-BREAK AT 3 GAMES ALL:  Traditional 7 point tie-break

  • First to 7 points by 2.

  • Coman format

TIE-BREAK IN LIEU OF 3RD SET:  Traditional 10 point tie-break

  • First to 10 points by 2.

  • Coman format

BREAKS during FAST4 play:

No sitting during the change of ends between games.

Set break, players are permitted to sit down at the end of a set for a maximum of ninety (90) seconds.

Coman Tiebreak Procedure:

The Coman Tiebreak procedure is identical to the regular tiebreak procedure except that the players change ends after the first point and then after every four points until the conclusion of a tiebreak. The Coman Tiebreak procedure is used for all tiebreaks played during a match.

Set Tie Break: First to win 7 points by 2 points wins “Game “and “Set”

3rd set Match Tie Break: First to win 10 points by 2, wins match.

  1. The player whose turn it is to serve shall serve the first point from the deuce court.

  2. After the first point, the players shall change ends and the following two points shall be served by the opponent(s) (in doubles, the player of the opposing team due to serve next) starting from the add court.

  3. After this, each player/team shall serve alternately for two consecutive points (starting from the ad court); changing ends after every four points, until the completion of the tie break game.

  4. Switch ends after points 1,5,9,13, 17....... and at the conclusion.

Coman Tie-break Summary

  • Switch sides after 1st point to the deuce court

  • Then switch sides every 4 points thereafter

  • Each player serves on the side they serve from during the set PRINCIPLE ADVANTAGES

Fairness – By changing ends more frequently, the effects of the elements (sun, wind, differences in court surfaces etc.) are distributed more evenly between the two opponents as opposed to playing six consecutive points before changing ends.

In doubles, the server will always serve from the same end of the court as they did throughout the set.
